About a year ago I've had a few personal troubles: not getting accepted into the few art colleges I picked, not finding a job, and getting too close to a "nonexistent" relationship. During the summer I've experienced (what I consider) my first low. It was quite detrimental to my creativity process and my self image. Luckily with the help of my family and friends, I was able to get back up. Sure I have some scars, but I can easily hide them and continue with my plans.
During the fall I took some classes at my local community college. Overall I've studied there for two years and a semester. I honestly enjoyed my experience at the community college. I was able to get my credits fast and easy, and it was a very calm environment. The only thing I'll complain about is the art classes never really challenged my skills. Sure I'm still improving little by little, but not at the rate that I want it to. Strangely enough I feel like my art has been stagnant since I came out of high school. Could it be the lack of creativity in my community college? Perhaps my artistic friends in high school challenged and inspired my creativity? I know I've become a home body and my social interaction with others just plummeted within these two years. That's probably one of the reasons why I'm struggling artistically.
The only thing that could bring me back to speed artistically is going to an art college. I'm ready to be on my own and finally gain the artistic medium that I've always wanted to try: animation. So during late fall, I sent out three applications to three art schools. After my failure of being accepted the first time, I didn't really have high hopes of being accepted. Then one day before I went to my drawing class, I received an email from MICA. "Congratulations from MICA!" I honestly didn't believe it at first, and I had to read the damn email ten times to process that 'yes, I did get accepted somewhere'! And it's a very good school too. Finally my plans are back in motion!
Yeah it was a terrible last year, but this year started very well! Extremely well...almost disturbingly well. In January 2nd through the 5th, there was a music and game festival called MAGFest. My friends and I planned to go since MAGStock (the same festival, but outdoors during the summer). It was required for us to go because the Game Grumps go every year. Man, so many things happened at MAGFest. Basically Amethyst-Chan and I stalked the Game Grumps to give them the truffles we made for them, Procon-8 was MIA with pokemon battles, poor Ren got sick and had to leave early, and Amethyst-Chan had a beautiful heart to heart conversation with Dan. On the last night of MAGFest we finally got the chance to get autographs from the Game Grumps. I made a small picture for them to sign and they were very impressed, especially Egoraptor. Egoraptor himself asked for my Tumblr/Deviantart username, AND TO THIS DAY MY BRAIN IS STILL FRIED FROM THAT MOMENT. Overall the Game Grumps were really sweet guys, and Dan so flirtatious (why Dan, why). It was definitely the greatest two days of my life.
So now here I am, two days before I move into MICA. I hope in the next two months or so I'll get right back to drawing and making stories. This is surely the next big step in my life, and I hope it really goes well.
